Nick Saban Got Kicked Out Of SEC Media Days Because He Forgot To Bring His Credential

Nobody is above the rules, not even legendary former Alabama head coach Nick Saban.

Saban, who shocked the college football world when he retired following the 2023 season, was turned away from SEC Media Days in Dallas after he accidentally showed up without a credential.

The seven-time national champion is attending the event as a media member for ESPN.

Security Stopped Nick Saban From Entering SEC Media Days

“It’s a little different,” Saban told ESPN’s Mike Greenberg on Monday’s episode if Get Up. “I’ve never worn a credential in my life and was always, for 17 years, able to get into SEC Media Day without a credential. I had to go back to the room today and get my credential to get in. That’s one of the biggest changes I see.”

Saban, of course, is one of, if not the most recognizable faces in the entire sport. So the idea that he would need a credential to get in any room, let alone SEC media days, is a bit laughable.

But shoutout to the hard-working employee who was likely just doing their job, and Saban seemed to take the whole thing in stride.

Saban is 72 years old and spent the previous 50 years of his life coaching in some capacity before hanging it up in January.

So, why now?

“I tried to hire three coaches and every one of them wanted to know how long I was gonna be there at the end of the season. Every recruit wanted to know how long you’re going to be here. When you’re 72 years old, it’s hard to say, ‘I’m gonna be here for the next four years,'” he told the Paul Finebaum Show in May. “But the question I had for a lot of people is, ‘How long you gonna be here?'”

Saban might want to rethink that approach, however, if he keeps getting turned away from events.
