Nick Saban is arguably college football’s greatest coach of all-time, and as time goes on, people respected the now-retired coach even more. Saban stepped down from Alabama after seventeen seasons in charge in Tuscaloosa and six Crimson Tide national titles.

Not only was Saban an outstanding football coach, but he’s always been a great interview on a multitude of topics, as he always had a funny quip or some insightful rants.

One of those funny Saban moments has resurfaced in the last few days and has gone viral on TikTok. Back in 2016, Charles Barkley sat down with Nick Saban to talk about a myriad of topics.

One of those topics was Nick Saban’s love for pickup basketball, something that he played frequently during early afternoons in the offseasons. It seems crazy that Saban, who was 64-years-old at the time, was still playing pickup basketball all the time, but he was. Take a listen to what he had to say.

To recap, Saban chose who was on his team, and chose who was guarding him, which makes sense when all the people playing are your employees. And, Nick Saban always plays point guard. Even when former NBA point guard Avery Johnson was the head basketball coach at Alabama, Saban still played point guard over him. He truly was the Big Man On Campus.

Nick Saban will spend his first year of retirement working for ESPN as a panelist on College GameDay and I’m sure we are going to get a ton of great television moments from him.

As for playing sports himself, it seems to be mostly golf at this stage of his life, something he has a lot more time for now.
