Zach Wilson’s NFL career has been a mess so far. Luckily for the 24-year-old quarterback, the rest of his life seems to be going as well as someone his age could hope.
As a result of him being drafted as the #2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Wilson signed a fully-guaranteed four-year, $35 million contract that will see him take home a total of $9.5 million for being Aaron Rodgers’ clipboard holder.
Wilson’s bank account isn’t the only aspect of his off-the-field life that seems to be doing just fine, though, as he’s also dating New Jersey-based Nicolette Dellanno, who has racked up over 43,000 followers on Instagram (for obvious reasons).
While Wilson is heading into the season as Rodgers’ backup, the newly acquired Jets QB actually thinks it’ll wind up being a good thing for Wilson’s career as it’ll give him a chance to “reset” before he enjoys a “nice long career” in the National Football League.
“I hope this time for him is like a deep inhale and exhale and he can really take a breath and pause and deal with the disappointment of last year and the frustration, and then channel it,” Rodgers said to the media earlier this week in a press conference.
“He has played really, really well in camp. He’s made a number of great throws. He looks confident. His fundamentals are improving. He’s throwing the ball on time. He’s got all the intangibles… I think he’ll look back years from now and be really thankful for this time to grow, to reset, to take a breath, and it’s gonna set him up for a nice long career in the league.”
During his two seasons in the NFL, Wilson has started in 22 games and has compiled an 8-14 record while completing 55% of his passes for 4,022 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions.
Wilson will actually be playing in the first NFL action of the 2023 season as he starts for the Jets in the Hall of Fame Game against the Cleveland Browns on Thursday, August 3, which is a matchup that has fans half-kiddingly hyped up.
