Northeast Mississippi Community College defeated Coahoma Community College in blowout fashion during their college football homecoming game. Unfortunately, it ended with an ugly brawl.
Both teams were involved with the melee in Mississippi.
There is no room for this kind of thing in college football. Suspensions are surely imminent.
Coahoma started the brawl with Northeast.
Neither Northeast nor Coahoma are very good this season. However, the former is in a much better position than the latter.
Northeast still has an off chance to make the playoffs out of the Northern division of the MACCC at 4-3 overall and 2-3 in conference. Coahoma’s season is over at 0-7.
I am not going to excuse poor behavior, but it is hard to lose every single game in blowout fashion. Both on the body and on the psyche. And that is exactly what happened (again) on Thursday night.
Northeast rolled to victory by a final score of 45-7. A running clock was used with more than two minutes left in the third quarter. It was pretty much over at halftime. Coahoma trailed by 24 at the break.
The players are completely demoralized but they apparently have not lost their fight. Literally.
A massive brawl broke out on the field during the handshake line. It got ugly. And according to boots on the ground, it was a Coahoma player who ran from the sidelines as the instigator.
College football players used a helmet as a weapon.
Things immediately got out of hand as soon as the first punch was thrown and this was not just some light pushing and shoving. It was an all-out war.
Both sides starting chucking knucks. Multiple Coahoma players jumped on top of a Northeast opponent. One Northeast player swung his helmet like a weapon. Local law enforcement had to get involved to break it up.

Here’s another look:
Neither team has released a statement as of this writing. Nor has the conference.
However, I do not see a scenario where this ugly incident does not lead to additional punishment. I would imagine players on both teams will soon be suspended. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the players who were most involved with the violence had the rest of their season revoked. Stay tuned.
