Notre Dame absolutely dominated Navy during Saturday’s college football game at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. The Fighting Irish’s blowout win managed to make the New York Jets AND New York Giants look even worse than they already do.
Neither NFL team has had much success finding the end zone while playing on their home field, which was not the case for their collegiate counterpart.
Notre Dame and Navy play each other every year. The former generally plays its home games against the Midshipmen at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend. The latter usually plays its “home games” against the Irish at a neutral site.
Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium holds a maximum capacity of only 34,000. Notre Dame stadium fits 77,622. MetLife Stadium fits 82,500.
No matter where the quasi-rivalry game is played, it always sells out. And because of the massive fan interest, playing the game away from campus at a bigger venue typically makes sense— even though it takes away from the atmosphere in Annapolis.
Anyway, it was announced way back in 2021 that this year’s college football game between Navy and Notre Dame would be played in East Rutherford for the eighth time in history and the first time since 2010.

Obviously, Navy’s defense is not comparable to that of the Vikings, Cowboys, Bengals, Patriots, Eagles, Broncos or Bills. Still. Saturday’s “amateur” football game in New Jersey somehow managed to make the state’s two professional football teams look even worse than they already are.
