Things haven’t exactly gone according to plan for Notre Dame men’s basketball coach Micah Shrewsberry since returning to his home state to coach the Fighting Irish in 2023. Shrewsberry took the job after guiding Penn State to the NCAA Tournament in 2022-23. But his first season in South Bend was a difficult one, ending with a 13-20 record.
Year two hasn’t been much better, as Notre Dame sits at just 10-10 overall and 4-5 in ACC play. Fighting Irish fans are beginning to lose patience with Shrewsberry, and apparently they’re acting on that impatience in some nefarious manners.

After a 71-68 victory over Georgia Tech on Tuesday, Shrewsberry revealed a text message that he received from an unknown number that was not exactly complimentary of the coach.
“I was just walking in, grabbed my phone so I don’ t have to go back to the locker room, and I got this text at 10:15. So obviously the game was still going. Whoever sent this, I appreciate you, thank you for being cool,” Shrewsberry said with a laugh before reading the text aloud.
“‘WTF am I watching? Do you have any plays written up because holy ‘S,’ your team is unorganized as hell. What are they paying you for,” the text read.
Well, Notre Dame went on to win the game. So clearly Shrewsberry either figured something out of his players won in spite of his lack of plays.
Ultimately, it’s easy to see why Notre Dame fans are angry. For years under Mike Brey they were one of the top programs in the Big East (Luke Harangody hive, stand up!) and then the ACC. But they’re years removed from those heights with no clear future in sight.
But harassing a head coach from an unknown number probably isn’t the best way to go about venting your frustration.
