Over the course of his NFL career, Odell Beckham Jr. signed five contracts, totaling 12 contract years and roughly $119 million. This, however, has proved to be a bit of a struggle for OBJ.

In the latest instance of a celebrity being frighteningly detached from reality, former NFL wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. went on Ryan Clark’s podcast — Clark certainly knows a thing or two about making out of pocket comments — to complain about how difficult the reality of living off $100 million is.

Beckham Jr. even named having to “flaunt” as one of his expenses.

“And I always explain this to people. Like bro, you give somebody a 5-year, $100 million contract, right? What is it really? It’s 5 years for $60M. You’re getting taxed. Do the math—that’s $12M a year, you know, that you have to spend, use, save, invest, flaunt…just being real. I’m going to buy a car, I’m going to give my mom a house. Everything costs money. So, if you’re spending $4M a year, that’s really $40M over five years — $8M a year,” Beckham Jr. said.

“That’s a five year span of where you’re getting $8M [per year]. Can you make that last forever? And you always hear the people who ain’t us and ain’t been in the position to be, ‘Oh, well that would last a lifetime.’”

Given $100 million is more money than the average person will see in their lifetime, OBJ was swiftly cooked on social media for his tone deaf take.

During his prime, Beckham Jr. was one of the best wide receivers in the NFL, as he was named Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2014, and to three straight Pro Bowls from 2014 to 2016.

His career took a downward turn and never recovered after he left the New York Giants, however, as he’d then go on to spend just a season-and-a-half with the Cleveland Browns — before closing out his career by spending half a season with the Rams, 2023 with the Ravens and 2024 with the Miami Dolphins, which is looking like it’ll be his last NFL season.
