A near-brawl was sparked in a lacrosse match between Ohio State and Denver on Sunday as a result of a vicious hit late in the action. With the Buckeyes leading 12-7 at the start of the fourth period, the two sides began to tussle moments after a faceoff.
A Pioneer player was leveled after securing a loose ball and attempting to advance it up the field. The Ohio State defense was having none of it.

The initial hit was laid on Denver’s Cody Malawsky. The redshirt sophomore was lifted out of his cleats by Ari Allen as he tried to corral that loose ball.
The Pioneers took immediate offense to the shot, which they deemed unnecessary. In what had been a frustrating afternoon, this collision caused tensions to boil over.
As the two teams met on the field, Calen Fyock was seen crashing in from the out of the picture. He knocked one Denver player to the ground with little more than a nudge. He then did his part to defend his teammates amid the chaos.
Fyock is just a sophomore, but he tips the scales at 6-2 and 297 pounds. He started 14 games as a rookie and played a major role for the Buckeyes in 2024. That included winning Big Ten Freshman of the Week on two separate occasions.
Unsurprisingly, he was a football player in high school that chose lacrosse after getting the interest from Ohio State. Clearly, he wasn’t going to back down to his Denver opponents in this scrum.
The Buckeyes eventually won the game, 15-11. They improved to 8-1 on the year.
