Saturday’s rivalry game between the Ohio State Buckeyes and Michigan Wolverines ended in one of the biggest upsets in college football history. But the incredible victory for the Wolverines was overshadowed by an ugly brawl between the two teams.

A late-game fight between several players on both teams had to be broken up by police, who resorted to using pepper spray on players in order to end the altercation. While neither team gave a clear picture of what sparked the brawl, what’s clear is that tensions were high throughout the evening.

Prior to the game, MGoBlue photographer Patrick Barron captured an image of an Ohio State fan apparently spitting on Michigan players prior to the game

“It was such a great game and you hate to see stuff like that,” Michigan running back Kalel Mulling said of the brawl. “It’s bad for the sport, it’s bad for college football.”

Mullings, who carried the ball 32 times for 116 yards and a touchdown, also had a message for Ohio State players.

“But at the end of the day, some people got to learn how to lose,” Mullings said. “You can’t be fighting and stuff just because you lost the game. We had 60 minutes, we had four quarters to do all that fighting. Now people want to talk and fight. That’s wrong. Classless in my opinion. People got to do better.”

Ohio State coach Ryan Day didn’t see things the same way.

“I don’t know all the details. But I know these guys were looking to put a flag on our field and we’re not going to let that happen,” Day said.

Well, Ryan, you probably should lose to your rival for the fourth year running. Because when you do, these are the types of things that happen.
