Ohio State quarterback Will Howard was a three-star recruit coming out of high school in the class of 2020.
He held several Division I FBS offers, eventually committing to the Kansas State Wildcats. But one offer Howard did not get was from the home state Penn State Nittany Lions.
Howard has since transferred to Columbus, where he’s the starting quarterback for the Buckeyes. And with a top-five showdown against the Nittany Lions a week away, he had some harsh words about the perceived slight from PSU.
“I wanted to go there my whole life, they didn’t think I was good enough… I guess we’ll see next week”
The Buckeyes clearly on to Penn State.

Ohio State Quarterback Will Howard Calls Out Penn State For Not Offering Him
“I’m stoked,” Howard said about the big game. “I cannot wait. It’s going to be a homecoming for me. I grew up a Penn State fan. I wanted to go there my whole life. They didn’t think I was good enough, but I guess we’ll see next week if I was.”
Penn State has not beaten Ohio State since 2016 and has only beaten the Buckeyes once under head coach James Franklin. But the Nittany Lions have played Ohio State close several times, and the feeling around the nation is that the Buckeyes are certainly gettable.
One thing working against Penn State is the health of starting quarterback Drew Allar. The redshirt sophomore, who has developed into one of the top QB prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft should he choose to enter, left Saturday’s game against the Wisconsin Badgers with a left knee injury.
Allar came out of the tunnel for the second half with a brace on his knee, but did not return to the contest. Backup quarterback Beau Pribula impressed in leading the Nittany Lions to a 28-13 victory. But Penn State fans will hope Allar is good to go for its biggest game of the year.
