The executor of O.J. Simpson’s estate, Malcolm LaVergne, announced this week that he is ready to put the whole thing up for auction. LaVergne says he would like to see it take place between March 12 and March 29.
The auction will reportedly be conducted by famous sports collectible auction house Goldin Auctions, LLC. That is assuming that none of O.J. Simpson’s children object to it taking place before February 26th. (The late NFL star’s son, Justin Simpson, might have a few issues with it.)
According to TMZ, some of the memorabilia that could be a part of the auction are photos of “The Juice” with political leaders like former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, a painting of Simpson created by Andy Warhol, a Heisman USC poster signed by Simpson, and pictures of O.J. Simpson from films like The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! and The Cassandra Crossing.
TMZ also says that the auction could include a series of plaques detailing Simpson’s accomplishments in the NFL, on the golf course, and, somehow, fantasy football. Considering the fact that O.J. Simpson played his last NFL game in 1979 and fantasy football didn’t go mainstream until the mid-1980s, it will be interesting to see how Simpson is considered to be, as TMZ puts it, a “fantasy football legend.”
Other items that could hit the auction block include the stash of girlie mags Simpson had while incarcerated in Nevada state prison, as well as legal documents, power of attorney papers, and handwritten grievances.
In August of 2024, Malcolm LaVergne claimed O.J.’s estate was virtually worthless after the state of California filed a tax lien against it for over $572,000. The estate currently owes, according to a lawsuit filed by Fred Goldman in 2024, over $117 million (and increases by more than $26,000 for each day that the debt remains unpaid).
