Ole Miss baseball is off to a hot start in 2022. Although the Rebels are working through some kinks with its rotation, their 1-9 batting lineup is amongst the most dangerous, if not the most dangerous in the country.

Among the bats that you don’t want to face is Peyton Chatagnier. The junior infielder is an RBI machine and, as was on full display on Wednesday night, a heck of a baserunner.

At 5-foot-10, 175 pounds, Chatagnier has some serious wheels and backs it up with the on-base street smarts, if you will. He put both skills on display against Alcorn State and somehow swiped three bags on one play in a wild display of athleticism and awareness.

On a 1-0 pitch in the second inning, the Ole Miss base runner took a sizable lead off of first base. When the pitcher turned back to first and threw down with a pickoff attempt, Chatagnier took off running.

It looked like he was hosed— but he wasn’t.

However, the throw down to second was a bit high and the speedster slid in head-first under the tag. Once he stood up and got his bearings, he noticed that the third baseman had shifted over toward where a shortstop would be and took off toward third.

After out-running the third baseman to his own base, the Braves catcher sprinted down the line and tried to beat Chatagnier to the bag. He did not.

Chatagnier slid in head-first once again and was called safe. At that point, third base coach Mike Clement stood up and casually pointed at home plate.

Nobody was there. The catcher was laying on the ground at third and the opportunity to score a run was wide open.

In turn, Chatagnier took off toward home, beat everyone to the dish, slid in head-first for a third time and scored. It was absolutely wild.

The play has since made its way across the internet and there is a slim chance that you will ever see anything like it again. Three bases, one play.

Chatagnier couldn’t believe it.

Neither could head coach Mike Bianco.

Even Scott Van Pelt had his mind blown by the play:

The Rebels went on to win the game in run-rule fashion and Chatagnier backed up his base running with a dinger.

Ole Miss is currently 11-1, but their biggest test of the season will come next weekend when SEC play begins against Auburn.
