Paul Skenes does not believe his girlfriend, Olivia Dunne, would ever be able to hit his splinker. The 22-year-old, who might already be the best pitcher in MLB, is far more confident in his ability to land a double backflip.

With that being said, he does not foresee either hypothetical situation ever coming to exist.

Skenes wrapped up his first season with the Pittsburgh Pirates at the end of September and will likely be named as the Rookie of the Year. There is a case to be made that he also deserves the NL Cy Young, but his limited time on a big league roster and minimal innings prevented him from being in the conversation.

Even though the grind does not stop, Skenes has a few months to kick up his feet. Pitchers and catchers report again in February. He has been able to enjoy some time back in Baton Rouge, where he won a national championship at LSU, with his girlfriend. Dunne is scheduled to begin her final season with the Tigers’ reigning national champion gymnastics team in January.

She invited Skenes to the gym at the beginning of October and proceeded to roast his childlike joy while he tried all of the different apparatuses. It was glorious. On the other side of the relationship, we have seen Dunne dress up like the 6-foot-6, 235-pound pitcher and grip her best fastball. We have not seen her step up to the plate or take the bump.

If the roles were to reverse, Skenes is confident that he would be able to land a double backflip before Dunne could even sniff his stuff. There was not even a second of hesitation. It was an easy answer. Ain’t happening!

Paul Skenes would not let Olivia Dunne hit his fastball or his splinker.

During this hypothetical conversation, Skenes also revealed that he has been working on his gymnastics skills. The video we saw was actually from last year. The foam pit is his best friend and he is getting better every day.

Now that this scenario has been introduced, we the people should not sleep until it actually happens.

Get Livvy Dunne in the batter’s box. Get Paul Skenes on the mound. 10 fastballs, 10 splinkers.
