Both Al Michaels and Bob Costas are set to return to NBC’s airwaves during the summer Olympics, according to reports.

Michaels and Costas, two of the most famous voices in modern sports broadcasting, are no longer with NBC, making their upcoming appearances on the Olympics broadcast a homecoming for them both.

Costas previously hosted 12 Olympic Games for NBC from 1988 to 2016, while Michaels famously delivered the “Do you believe in miracles?” when the United States beat the Soviet Union during the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid.

According to Front Office Sports, “Costas and Michaels were seen kibitzing with NBC guest commentator Snoop Dogg at the beach volleyball venue under the shadows of the Eiffel Tower. The pair also joined a CEO panel conducted by sister network CNBC.”

“The network plans to bring back legendary broadcasters Bob Costas and Al Michaels for surprise on-air appearances during its coverage of the 2024 Paris Olympics. The move represents a reconciliation after both Costas and Michaels left NBC under something of a cloud.”

Costas departed from NBC in 2019 while Michaels followed suit in 2022, when he moved over to Prime Video to call Thursday Night Football.

At this time, it is unclear in what capacity Costas and Michaels will be returning, and whether they will be announcing live events, presenting highlight packages, or something else.

“They’re icons in this industry, and it would be great for viewers. We expect to make that happen,” NBC spokesman Greg Hughes told Front Office Sports.

Michaels called NBC Sunday Night Football for the network from 2006 to 2021, while Costas was with the company from 1980 to 2019, where he called sports such as football, basketball, and baseball in addition to the Olympics.

The 2024 Olympics, the 33rd Olympiad, are being held in France from July 26 to August 11.
