The 2024 Olympics are officially underway, but the lead up has been rough for a number of Australians at the Paris Games. Both swim and BMX participants found themselves in undesirable situations ahead of the event’s start.

Incidents have been posted to the social media accounts of a pair of stars, one of whom is gold medal winner Logan Martin.

Earlier this week, he detailed a break-in to his van in Belgium, resulting in the theft of personal items. Martin, who placed first in the men’s BMX freestyle at Tokyo in 2020, posted a video of the robbery to his Instagram page.

“Our van got broken into overnight,” the caption read. “Luckily most of our stuff was in our room and we managed to recover a lot of it too. I lost my wallet, backpack and a few other things but overall, it didn’t end up being too bad. It’s unfortunate when people feel the need to do things like this.”

Martin’s events don’t start until later in the week, giving him some time to recompose himself before competition.

He’s not the only Australian participant to run into issue, though.

Australian swimmers detail ‘nightmare’ bus ride to Olympics training facility.

Shayna Jack, Brianna Throssell, and other team members were seen riding on the floor of a crammed bus on their way to the pool Tuesday.

In one post, Jack said that not only were they packed into the bus with no A/C and no seating, but that it also got lost on its way to the facility!

“Bus rides to the pool are jam packed… 45 min to comp pool. No aircon or windows down. Bus has also gotten lost. Crazy start to the chaos.”

On top of the chaotic trip, a number of water polo players are also dealing with illness – hence the masks shown in Jack’s photo.

At least there’s a silver lining for the Olympians with the event starting Wednesday. Things can only go up from here for the Aussies!
