Baseball season is nearly upon us and the San Diego Padres are hoping for a strong season that ends with a World Series.
The front office has done nothing but make big moves to acquire an extremely talented team.
With that said, the Padres turned heads yet again after giving Manny Machado a fat contract extension.
According to Jeff Passan, San Diego is giving Machado an 11-year, $350 million extension to remain with the team.
BREAKING: Star third baseman Manny Machado and the San Diego Padres are finalizing an 11-year, $350 million contract extension, sources familiar with the deal tell ESPN. Machado helped turn around the franchise. He'll stay as the ascendant Padres seek their first championship.

Not only is Manny Machado staying in San Diego for the long haul, but the Padres also made a little history with this contract, per Passan.
Manny Machado's path is wild. His market during free agency was grim until the Padres stepped in. He made $150M from that deal and will get another $350M. A genuine half-billion-dollar player. And the $350 million is a Trout- and Betts-sized number — fourth-biggest deal ever.

The Padres are dishing out money all over the place and still have Juan Soto to negotiate a contract with. With that said, baseball fans are utterly confused about how San Diego has so much money.

Even FanDuel has jokes.

A lot of these guys in San Diego will be quite a bit older at the end of their contracts.

Padres fans are loving it.
As a lifelong Padres fan, it’s unbelievable to see a San Diego Padres owner pay market price for great players—intentionally trying to win the World Series. What a group of outstanding young players to sign. Machado. Tatis, Jr.. Bogaerts. Possibly Soto? Could be a helluva ride!

Look for San Diego to be competitive for years to come. Especially once Fernando Tatis Jr. returns from his suspension.
