Popular golf influencer Paige Spiranac reveals her best tips for lowering your handicap in the latest episode from the series of weekly instructional videos she shares on YouTube. Take a look at see if she can’t help you score better on the course.
The first thing Paige Spiranac explains in her video this week is why she chose this topic for her latest episode, which, as it turns out, may actually be one of the most helpful and in-depth tutorials she has ever given online.
“So I posted on my story my handicap and I did this because um this was the first full year that I have kept a handicap in years and years,” Spiranac explained. “So I kept it in junior golf. I kept it in college because you need to have a handicap to be able to enter certain tournaments and so I did that. Once I turned professional, I kind of just stopped keeping it because it’s not really important anymore. Like, it doesn’t really matter.”
After explaining why it took her years to even want to keep score on the golf course after turning pro, she explained, “Last year, I kind of had this this surge of wanting to play golf, to keep my score, to work on my game. I wanted to practice. I wanted to get better.
“And so I really committed this last year of trying to improve my swing and improve my golf game and to just enjoy it. And that’s what I feel like I was, like, able to do, which is really exciting. And so I finally got my handicap to a plus-3.9 and a ton of people were asking me how I got my handicap there.”
Paige Spiranac goes on to explain how, contrary to many golfers’ opinions, she likes to rotate through multiple golf instructors, rather than stick with just one. “I personally like the change and like a rotation and like learning new things from different instructors,” Spiranac said.
Knowing that may not be possible for the new or average golfer, she suggests that instead of doing that, watch as many good golf instructors as you can on YouTube.
“I think that is a great way to just gain more knowledge and understanding of the swing,” Spiranac continued. “And you can also find pros in your local area that you can try this out on. I think it’s important to try different pros to see which one you click with, that understands your game, understands your swing, and that’s just something that I’ve always really loved to do.”
Paige Spiranac goes on to explain other things like how she keeps her stats on her scorecard as she completes a round of golf, why she thinks working on your physical fitness and flexibility is key, why being in a good head space is important and how fueling your body properly helps with that, and why it is also wise to not get too frustrated when you don’t see immediate results or have a bad day on the course.
