Pat McAfee knows how to keep busy. The man who initially made a name for himself in the NFL is the host of his own show on ESPN and a member of the College GameDay panel, and he’s now added music to the list of side quests he’s tackled after deciding to drop his first song.
There are plenty of punters who’ve experienced more success during their time in the NFL than Pat McAfee, but I can’t think of any that have managed to do better for themselves after their days in the league came to an end than the man who spent eight years with the Colts.
The Pennsylvania native played his final season in 2016 before becoming one of the many professional athletes who’ve turned their attention to a career in media after retiring. He’s managed to become one of the biggest broadcasting names in the game, but he’s also a multi-hyphenate who can list “professional wrestler” and “stand-up comedian” on his résumé.
Now, he’s updated it yet again courtesy of his first foray into the world of music.
Pat McAfee is now a musician after dropping a song called “Dookie”
College GameDay headed to Eugene when Oregon hosted Indiana midway through October, and McAfee got the crowd going at the start of the show with a brief freestyle before seguing into a rendition of “Shout.”

It appears that was the onus for a new venture, as McAfee recently revealed he decided to use those lines as the foundation for the song he said he was going to release on Thursday night. He lived up to that promise, as he debuted his first-ever track, “Dookie,” at midnight.

Here’s a lyric video to help learn the words.
I can’t wait to see what you all do with the song

The track might share a name with a Green Day album, but I’d argue its genre is best defined as “something you’d find on an EA Sports video game soundtrack.” McAfee definitely isn’t breaking any new ground with the 90-second song, and while I don’t think it’s going to be topping the charts anytime soon, I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t a little catchy.
People seemed to be a bit split based on the reactions “Dookie” garned in the comments, but I can’t knock the hustle.
This may be the first number McAfee has released, but it won’t be the last when you consider he said he’s gearing up to launch a full album at some point in the coming months.
