Pat Shurmur may not be the offensive coordinator at Colorado for much longer. Fans want him gone.
The decision will ultimately come from head coach Deion Sanders but last weekend’s performance against Utah proved to be a complete and total disaster.
Not only did the Buffaloes put up some of the worst numbers in recent college football history, they looked completely inept. That stems directly from the man who calls plays.
Colorado lost to Utah in blowout fashion.
The Buffs found themselves down 43-0 at halftime. They generated -18 yards in the first two quarters of play and the final two quarters of play were not that much better.
Colorado totaled only 140 yards over the course of the entire game, with just 38 total rushing yards.
Starting quarterback Kaidon Salter completed only nine of 22 pass attempts for 37 yards with an interception. Backup quarterback Ryan Staub completed four of eight pass attempts for 65 yards.
Leading rusher Kam Mikell finished with 44 total yards on eight carries. Everybody else finished with five yards or less. Staub scored the only touchdown of the game late in the fourth quarter on the ground.
Utah won 53-7.
Pat Shurmur probably needs to go.
Shurmur is fairly new to college football but not to coaching. He got his first real opportunity as the offensive coordinator of the St. Louis Rams in 2009 after working his way up the ladder with the Eagles. From there, he served as head coach of the Browns, offensive coordinator for the Eagles, offensive coordinator for the Vikings, head coach of the Giants and offensive coordinator for the Broncos. There was also a brief stint as interim head coach of the Eagles.
Deion Sanders brought Shurmur on staff at Colorado as an offensive analyst in 2023. He later promoted him to offensive coordinator over highly-touted offensive guru Sean Lewis.

Fast forward to Saturday. Not only did Colorado struggle to move the ball, its quarterbacks looked legitimately confused on more than one occasion.
This was how Salter reacted to a play call in the first half:

Staub later got into it with his offensive line late in the game on how to run a play from the goal line, which forced the Buffs to call a timeout:

And it gets worse. A new video from Well Off Media shows Pat Shurmur struggling to relay a play call down to his quarterback.
That play ended up being the quarterback sneak.
There is an argument to be made that the play call does not matter if the players do not execute. True. There is also an argument to be made that Shurmur would be better off on the sideline. I agree.
Only time will tell whether Sanders decides to make a change but this new video is not a good look. I am genuinely surprised Well Off Media allowed that moment to be made public.
