Patrick Mahomes Sr. has received his sentence for pleading guilty to DWI after having a blood alcohol content of 0.23 during a Feb. 3 traffic stop on Gentry Parkway in Tyler, Texas.

The former Major League Baseball pitcher and father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes received five years probation for a DWI third time or more charge, “intense supervision,” 160 community service hours, a substance abuse evaluation through the probation department, a life skills course, enrollment in the DWI repeat offender program, and Alcohol Anonymous classes, and 10 mandatory days in jail.

His blood alcohol level at the time of his arrest was almost three times the legal limit in Texas.

Pat Mahomes was also charged with driving with an invalid license in July, but that charge was dismissed. During that traffic stop, he was also given a warning for disregarding traffic signs, but allowed to continue driving, for some unclear reason.

The invalid license charge came just five months after he was reportedly arrested for at least the sixth time for driving while intoxicated. He was previously charged with DWI twice in 2012, twice in 2018, and once in 2019. He has reportedly been arrested at least 11 times in total since 2009.

Pat Mahomes had been facing up to 10 years in a Texas Department of Criminal Justice penitentiary for this latest DWI offense and up to a $10,000 fine, so he got off very easy.

He was also allowed to travel to Las Vegas eight days after his arrest so he could watch his son Patrick Mahomes play in the Super Bowl despite his latest DWI being classified as a felony in the state of Texas.

Following his sentencing, Pat Mahomes told the media, “Hopefully it will enlighten someone else to take these measures and make sure this doesn’t happen again.”

Mahomes claims that he has been sober and hasn’t had a drink since his latest arrest.

As for him traveling to his son’s football games, Mahomes said, “It’s kind of a tradition; I normally go to all the football games. I know he enjoys me being there, so hopefully things will work out and I’ll be able to continue what I’ve been doing.”
