According to new court documents, Patrick Mahomes’ dad failed to show up for a court-ordered drug test two days after the Super Bowl. As a result of that and other recent incidents, a Texas District Attorney has demanded he wear an alcohol monitoring bracelet.
For the second year in a row, a judge granted Patrick Mahomes Sr. permission to travel to the Super Bowl despite recently pleading guilty to DWI after having a blood alcohol content of 0.23 during a Feb. 3, 2024 traffic stop. It was reportedly at least the sixth time he had been arrested for driving while intoxicated and at least the 11th time he had been arrested since 2009.
In the lead-up to the Super Bowl in New Orleans, reports surfaced about 54-year-old Pat Mahomes Sr. getting into a heated exchange on Bourbon Street with former baseball player John Rocker. While many people believe the incident was staged to promote an upcoming boxing match between the two former Major League Baseball pitchers, it apparently didn’t sit well with a Texas District Attorney.
Court documents obtained by In Touch reveal that on Thursday a District Attorney in Smith County, Texas, along with a community supervisor officer, requested to a judge that Pat Mahomes Sr. be forced to wear an alcohol monitoring bracelet.
“Patrick Mahomes … due to the defendant’s extensive travel outside of Smith County for sports events it’s requested the defendant have an additional portable alcohol monitoring device when he’s not using his vehicle,” the request read.
While Patrick Mahomes’ dad was permitted to travel to New Orleans from February 7 through February 10, he was also required to submit to a urine test on February 11. He did not. Court documents submitted by his community supervision officer reveal that he instead appeared on February 12 to take the test, which he passed. The report also stated, “it was brought to this officer’s attention that [Pat Sr.] was seen on video getting into an altercation on Bourbon Street during approved travel.”
In Touch reports that the documents also stated that an admin hearing was held to “admonish the defendant regarding the missed urinalysis and altercation,” which, once again, displayed to Patrick Mahomes’ dad and others that his actions have no real consequences.
The provision that the District Attorney asked to be added to Mahomes’ sentence also stated, “At your own expense, immediately submit to the SCRAM Bracelet Alcohol Monitoring Program, and directed by your Supervision Officer and continue use of said device until released by the court, and do not attempt to remove, circumvent or tamper with the monitoring unit or any associated equipment and follow all rules and regulations of said monitoring program.”
As of this writing, the judge has not ruled on the request.
