Every injury is different but it sounds like both guys could be back even sooner than expected.
Two of the highest-paid players in the NFL are dealing with the similar injuries suffered on the same day. They could be on track for the first month of next season.
Patrick Mahomes’ personal trainer vowed to attack his rehab for a torn ACL.
The three-time Super Bowl champion quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs underwent successful surgery on Monday, Dec. 15. The surgery was performed by Dr. Dan Cooper, the head team physician for the Cowboys, less than 36 hours after he suffered a severe knee injury against the Chargers.
Patrick Mahomes tore both the ACL and the LCL in his left knee.
A typical recovery for this kind of injury takes somewhere between nine and 12 months. It depends on the person. It depends on the severity.
Mahomes has worked with personal trainer Bobby Stroupe since the start of his NFL career. Stroupe posted the following image to social media last week about his superstar client’s recovery.
A toe injury required Mahomes to get surgery after the 2020 season. His trainer made reference to the last time he overcame a serious injury, when the haters said he would never be as good.
The comeback is going to be greater than the setback.

It was just a few hours after Patrick Mahomes tore his ACL that Micah Parsons did the same. However, Parsons did not get surgery until Dec. 29— two weeks after Mahomes.
These are two different injuries for two different players. One involves an LCL. One does not.
With that being said, Parsons recently spoke about his recovery and a possible timeline for his return. His goal is to be back on the field in September of next season. Somewhere around the first month.
“Optimistically, Week 1,” he said. “Realistically, Week 3.”
I cannot reiterate enough. This does not mean anything for Mahomes. Different players require different healing for different injuries. It is not the same.
But if we are to look at this from a 30,000-foot view, these two athletes tore their ACLs on the same day. That means they are likely on a similar rehabilitation timeline.
If Parsons wants to be back by the first month of the season, that means Mahomes could (key word) be back around the same time. Perhaps within a few weeks. Maybe on the same week. It
All of this goes to say that — if everything goes according to plan — the Kansas City Chiefs could have their starting quarterback back in the lineup during the first quarter of the season. We’ll see.
