The Bill Belichick era has officially begun in Chapel Hill as he was named the new head football coach at the University of North Carolina on Wednesday. What that will end up looking like, no one really knows yet, but many people have thoughts.

One of those people is former Patriots offensive lineman Ross Tucker. Tucker, who played seven seasons in the National Football League was coached by Bill Belichick during the 2005 season when he was with New England.

Prior to the official announcement naming Bill Belichick the Tar Heels’ new coach, Tucker appeared on WEEI on Tuesday and predicted The Hoodie would be “the worst college head coach.”

“Based on my experience playing college football, which is not the current era, and based on my experience playing for coach Belichick — which was almost 20 years ago — he would be probably, by far, the worst college head coach I could ever imagine,” Ross Tucker said.

“I mean the idea of the guy that I was around, recruiting, or like going into the living room of a 17-year-old. I want this to happen so bad I can taste it. I mean, if they do it, they’ve gotta have cameras everywhere. The guy, when I was in New England, was like 100 percent negative reinforcement. I would love to just see how quickly those kids go into the transfer portal.”

As it turns out, at least for now, several football players at the University of North Carolina that were in already in the transfer portal are now expressing reservations about leaving the program. Plus, at least one player, offensive lineman Austin Blaske has already pulled his name out of the portal.

As far as recruiting new players to the Tar Heels’ football program, another former Patriots player, Rob Ninkovich, thinks Bill Belichick will have no problem recruiting “young talent.”
