Out of the four major American sports, the most intense GOAT debate definitely resides in the NBA. These days, it mostly centers around Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James and Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan.

Recently, The Athletic published their annual survey of NBA players where they ask a large group of the league’s players their anonymous opinions on a bunch of different things. When it came to picking the greatest player of all time, nearly 90% selected either Michael Jordan or LeBron James. But, someone voted for Boston Celtics legend Paul Pierce as the GOAT, which is quite the choice.

Here are the results of the survey.

Look at Paul Pierce down there with one vote! He does not fit in with the rest of those guys.

Make no mistake. Paul Pierce is a legend. The NBA Champion, ten-time All-Star, and four-time All-NBA Selection was named to the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team that picked the best 75 players in league history. But, no real analyst would have his him as a top 20 player, and maybe not even a top 50 player.

So, who voted for Paul Pierce as the GOAT? Paul Pierce thinks it may have been LeBron James.

“What if LBJ voted for me?” I did play against him, He must think something. What do you think about that? We had a lot of battles. We had some tough battles. It could’ve been (LeBron James)!” Pierce said on Fox Sports 1’s Undisputed

Funny, but I’m guessing LeBron voted for himself, as he should. He’s right there with Michael Jordan and has a real claim to the GOAT title.
