Any time a player is selected with the first-overall pick in the MLB Draft ,expectations are high. But, they were especially high for former LSU and current Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes.

All he’s done is exceed those expectations in every way through his first handful of starts in the big leagues for the Buccos. That continued on Monday night, and Paul Skenes has already established himself as one of the premier pitchers in all of baseball.

Skenes took the mound against the Cincinnati Reds, and he was dealing once again. Take a look.

Just think, two years ago he was pitching at a service academy in Air Force, contracted to give a chunk of his life to military service. Now, he’s dealing in the big leagues, and dating one of the most recognizable women in America in former LSU gymnast and social media mogul, Olivia Dunne.

Already, Skenes could have a case as the best pitcher in the National League. He technically doesn’t qualify for the league lead in ERA due to not having enough innings pitched. But, if he did, Paul Skenes would be third in the National League. His strikeouts per nine innings would be second in the majors. And, he just turned 22-years-old last month!

Alongside fellow 22-year-old flamethrower Jared Jones, he forms the best young pitching duo in the league. The sky looks to be the limit for Paul Skenes, and he could be the consensus best pitcher in baseball very soon.
