The second-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions didn’t have a very impressive showing against visiting Florida International on Saturday. But new starting punter Gabe Nwosu sure did.

The Nittany Lions sleepwalked to a 34-0 victory, while star quarterback Drew Allar and his elite offensive line struggled to get in rhythm. Penn State fans were none too pleased with the performance. But they did get one incredible highlight out of it all thanks to Nwosu.

Gabe Nwosu Isn’t You Average Punter!

The redshirt senior spent the last two seasons as the kickoff specialist for PSU. But this year, he won the starting job over returning starter Riley Thompson.

Nwosu came into college known for his incredible leg strength, and it’s easy to see why! The Maryland native is listed at jaw-dropping 6-foot-6 and 297 pounds! That’s larger than a number of college offensive linemen!

Nwosu showed off his remarkable leg with his second punt of the season against the Panthers.

The Penn State punter unleashed a 72-yard bomb a kick that went flying over the head of the FIU return man and inside the 10-yard line.

But Nwosu isn’t just a one-trick pony. He also pinned the Panthers at the 2-yard line earlier in the contest, showing off an impressive amount of finesse for a punter of his size.

That kind of performance is why Bruce Feldman named the punter one of the most impressive athletes in the country in his annual list.

Penn State and head coach James Franklin will hope that Nwosu doesn’t have to punt very often this season. But when he does, the Nittany Lions will know that their punter is plenty capable of delivering whatever type of punt they need.
