Domingo German threw the 24th perfect game in MLB history on Wednesday, shutting out the A’s in an impressive performance. Many are saying it should’ve been the 25th.
Following German’s outing, an old clip from the baseball world began trending on social media. Many remember the image quite vividly though it came more than a decade ago.
In 2010, Detroit Tigers pitcher Armando Galarraga retired the first 26 hitters, in order, in a matchup against division rival Cleveland. On what should’ve been the final out of the game, Jason Donald slapped a groundball to the hole between the first and second basemen.
Miguel Cabrera turned to his right to snag the grounder before hitting a striding Galarraga at first base.
On first look, it appeared the pitcher beat the baserunner to the bag by a step. Umpire Jim Joyce, however, called Donald safe, effectively ending the perfect game bid.
Replays showed that Donald should have been called out.

Reminder to all Yankees fans that Domingo German threw the 25th* perfect game in MLB history
And while we’re on the topic, the MLB should formally recognize Armando Galarraga’s perfect game as modern replay would have confirmed this

Unfortunately, Galarraga’s epic performance won’t go down in the history books, though it likely would’ve had it happened in today’s game given the introduction of instant replay.
Clearly, baseball fans haven’t forgotten.
