The New York Jets, who went into the 2024 season with Super Bowl-or-bust expectations, currently find themselves with a 2-3 record as the NFL calendar gets into October.

Perhaps more worrying than their record, however, has been their general play, as they haven’t even looked all that great in their wins, which have come over the lowly Tennessee Titans and New England Patriots.

Over in London against the Minnesota Vikings, for example, the Jets were failing to execute basic run-blocking schemes, a microcosm of the offense’s inefficiency as a whole.

Speaking about his personal experience with the 2012 Broncos, who also got off to a slow 2-3 start, Peyton Manning said that Aaron Rodgers and the Jets should “not be panicking” and should continue to grind away at the little things.

“They should not be panicking. Obviously, you always want to have a sense of urgency when you’re playing. And last year was a wash because Aaron got injured. This is really the first year, and you want to have immediate success,” Manning told Kay Adams before reminiscing about his experience with the 2012 Denver Broncos, his first season with the team.

“We felt pretty good about our chemistry and the offense we put in — we win the first game, all of a sudden, you lose a couple in a row… you just never know. There’s an old saying, you just keep sawing wood, you keep grinding, hopefully you’re looking for little things that show that we are making some improvements in the game, whether that resulted in a win or a loss,” Manning said.

“I feel with Aaron there at quarterback, the Jets are going to be just fine. It would nice to play good team complimentary football, but as long as #8 is there, I think they’re in good shape.”

The Jets will look to get back to .500 when the host the Buffalo Bills for Monday Night Football on October 14. If they win that game, they’ll be in sole possession of first place in the AFC East.
