Few know football like Peyton Manning. The legendary quarterback not only had incredible physical talent in his right arm, but was arguably the most cerebral quarterback in the game’s history, with only Tom Brady really mentioned with him in the discussion.

Flag football is being added to the Olympic Games for the first time in four years, and everyone is wondering if the NFL’s biggest stars will suit up for Team USA. It could be quite the loaded team.

While we don’t know who will be wearing the stars and stripes, we may have found a coach. Peyton Manning claimed he’s interested in being the coach of the inaugural Team USA Football Olympic Team on Thursday.

“You mentioned my youth flag football coaching. I was probably a better coach of our youth flag football team here in Denver than I have been in the Pro Bowl. Pat, I’m 0-2 as a Pro Bowl coach to Eli. You mentioned that flag football is coming to the Olympics in LA in 2028. You hear about NFL players sort of campaigning to be on that team. Scary to think Lamar Jackson, Tyreke Hill, but I’d like to be a coach on that team. There is no way I’m getting picked. There’s no way I’m getting picked now that Eli’s beat me twice.” Manning said.

It is funny that he noted that his brother Eli has beat him twice as a coach in the Pro Bowl after it switched to flag football. But, I’m sure we’d all still love to see him be the coach in four years. Plus, I think NFL teams and players would be much more conducive to allowing guys to play if a big name like Payton Manning was attached to the effort.

Peyton Manning will get a big taste of the Olympic way, as he is set to co-host NBC’s coverage of the Opening Ceremonies of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris next Friday alongside Mike Tirico and Kelly Clarkson.
