Peyton Manning was always in control at the line of scrimmage during his illustrious NFL career. No quarterback audibled more at the line of scrimmage than Peyton Manning.

He brought some of that quarterback knowledge with him as a co-host of NBC’s coverage of the Opening Ceremonies of the Summer Olympics in Paris, France on Friday.

Yes, that’s a quarterback wristband that you see quarterbacks use all over football from youth on up to remember play calls and keywords. While the NFL has had plays directly radioed into the headset of the quarterback for decades now,  they still utilize these wristbands.

And, it’s obvious what their utility would be in this situation. As the 184 countries parade by, knowing which flag is which, who the flag-bearers are, and a fast fact or two about each nation goes a long way into making a good broadcast of an Olympic Opening Ceremonies.

While fellow co-host Kelly Clarkson has struggled mightily during the broadcast, Peyton Manning has done a great job. He likely took the preparation seriously, just as he did during his eighteen-year NFL career.

The Summer Olympics continue until August 11.
