When it was announced this week that Keegan Bradley would be named captain of Team USA for the 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black the golf world was taken aback but quickly came to agreement that Keegan would make a great pick.

It was a controversial pick, after all, due in large part to 2023 Ryder Cup captain Zach Johnson snubbing Keegan Bradley from the team. This time around, Keegan actually revealed that nobody had contacted him about his interest or availability to be captain prior to him receiving the call informing him that he would be named Ryder Cup captain if he wanted the role.

Jumping across the pond, LIV Golf is in Spain this week for the LIV Golf Andalucia invitational at Real Club Valderrama and during today’s press conferences Phil Mickelson, Bryson DeChambeau, and Henrik Stenson were asked about Keegan Bradley being named as Ryder Cup captain. It’s particularly noteworthy because Keegan name dropped Mickelson as a future captain.

Phil Mickelson: “I was surprised at the pick. And I think it’s a great pick. The more I think about it… You know, he played a lot of golf at Bethpage Black when he went to St. John’s. His passion for the Ryder Cup is greater than just about any player I’ve ever seen. His love for the Ryder Cup is more than anybody I know and I think he’s going to lead with that type of passion.”

Mickelson went on to say “I think we all are really happy for him, knowing how gut-wrenching it was to not be a part of the team last year but to now have the opportunity to lead and go forward.”

Bryson DeChambeau was asked about Keegan’s ’12 best players’ comment as it relates to him. Bryson echoed a lot of Mickelson’s comments on Keegan Bradley’s Ryder Cup captaincy. Bryson said “as it comes to picking the best players, I think that’s the right approach and I couldn’t be more happy for him as the captain.”

The 2025 Ryder Cup needs the best from LIV Golf. It’s as simple as that. If Bryson DeChambeau keeps his form between now and then he will 100% be on that team and earning points for Team USA as he can beat anyone on any day on the European squad. Keegan Bradley knows that and it sounds like the PGA Tour-LIV Golf schism won’t get in the way of roster decisions this time around.
