The Philadelphia Eagles are one win away from locking up first place in the NFC East with the rival Dallas Cowboys coming to town on Sunday. But while Dallas has floundered this season, sitting at 7-8 with backup quarterback Cooper Rush in command, the Eagles may not have it easy on Sunday as they once expected.
That’s because star quarterback Jalen Hurts, who suffered a concussion last week against the Washington Commanders, looks set to miss out on Sunday’s showdown. Hurts is currently in the league’s concussion protocol and has not practiced with the team this week. On Thursday, Philly called up former Notre Dame quarterback Ian Book from its practice squad, indicating that Hurts isn’t likely to be ready to return on Sunday.

Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts Has Been In Concussion Protocol All Week
Philadelphia head coach Nick Sirianni didn’t provide a ton of information when asked about Hurts on Thursday afternoon. But he did reveal that backup Kenny Pickett is also limited with a rib injury. That could clear the path for either book or third-string quarterback Tanner McKee to get the call against Dallas.
“We just lean on the doctors to let us know on a daily basis of where he is,” Sirianni said of Hurts earlier this week.
“Tanner gives us a lot of confidence. Kenny gives us a lot of confidence,” he later said.”I think that’s just a tribute to [general manager Howie Roseman] and his staff, of the all the pieces that he’s given us to work with, and the depth that he’s given us to work with.”
Philadelphia currently holds the second seed in the NFC playoffs. But the Eagles could fall as far as the sixth-seed should Washington come from behind and win the division. The Detroit Lions hold the top seed in the NFC, but are tied with Minnesota Vikings atop the NFC North. The two teams are set to play one another in Week 18.
