Philadelphia Phillies Pitcher Matt Strahm Quit Fantasy Football For The Most Hilarious Reason

Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Matt Strahm has been one of the best relief pitchers in all of baseball in 2024.

And quitting fantasy football is a big reason why.

However, the reason why Strahm quit playing fantasy football had nothing to do with baseball, but instead something far more humorous.

Strahm pitched a scoreless sixth inning for the Phillies in a 5-4 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday Night Baseball. During the appearance, ESPN’s broadcast explained the story behind Strahm cutting ties with fantasy football.

According to the lore, Strahm was a huge fantasy football fan. But he is also an avid hunter. During one bow-hunting trip, he had tracked a large deer for 60 hours.

While in a tree stand, Strahm received an alert that he needed to set his fantasy football lineup. So he took out his phone and submitted the lineup.

However, while he was doing so the deer that he was tracking appeared. As Strahm went to grab his bow, the deer sensed him and disappeared. It never reappeared.

And that was the end of Matt Strahm’s fantasy football career.

Sort of.

Strahm still plays. But he only operates as a team owner. Instead of setting his lineups and handling roster changes, Strahm has a clubhouse attendant manage his team.

That’s next-level thinking. All of the glory without any of the stress. And if you lose, you just blame the clubhouse attendant.

Strahm, who is often outspoken, joined the Phillies from the Boston Red Sox prior to the 2023 season. He worked as both a starter and reliever in his debut season in Philly and posted a very respectable 3.29 ERA.

But he’s been lights out in year two. Working solely as a reliever, Strahm has an incredible 0.75 ERA and has no pitched 24 consecutive scoreless innings.

Maybe it’s time for the rest of us to kick fantasy football to the curb, too.
