The Indianapolis Colts are in desperation mode following the season-ending injury to starting quarterback Daniel Jones, as they have signed veteran 44-year-old quarterback Philip Rivers off the street and onto their practice squad. Rivers last played during the 2020 season.
Following a workout with the team on Tuesday, Philip Rivers signed a contract with the Indianapolis Colts practice squad on Wednesday, and therefore will officially join the team.
While rookie QB Riley Leonard is expected to start in Week 15 against the Seattle Seahawks, there seems to be an expectation that Rivers will take the reigns at some point.
If he does actually see the field for the Colts, he’s going to be carrying a few more LBs on him than the last time he took a snap, which was on January 9, 2021, in a 27-24 loss to the Buffalo Bills.
During his playing career from 2004 to 2020, Rivers was usually listed at 6’5″ and 228 pounds.
New Indianapolis Colts quarterback Philip Rivers, who is 44 years old, how no idea how much he currently weighs
“Right this second? I’m not sure. How about that? That’s an honest answer. To answer your question a little bit on the playing weight, not what it was when I walked off the field in Buffalo, but then I’ll follow that up with, I ain’t ran away from anybody anyway.”

Rivers previously spent 16 seasons in the National Football League with the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers before playing his last season for the Colts in 2020.
The likely future Hall of Famer was certainly serviceable in his final season, as he led the Colts to an 11-5 record and a playoff berth while completing 68% of his passes for 4,169 yards, 24 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
Should Rivers sign with Colts active roster, though, his Hall of Fame eligibility clock would reset and trigger another five-year wait. If he remains only signed to the practice squad, however, the clock would not reset.
