Even though the Pittsburgh Steelers played Sunday’s NFL game against the Raiders in Las Vegas, it looked more like a home game for the visitors. Allegiant Stadium was covered in gold.

Head coach Mike Tomlin, who has been with the organization since 2007, was so impressed by the turnout that he went out of his way to acknowledge the Yinzers who made the trip!

To reiterate: this is not a new thing. Steelers fans often travel in mass and will completely negate home field advantage for their opponents. They frequently takeover an opponent’s stadium, especially during big games with big implications.

This weekend’s contest was not particularly important in terms of playoff standings or anything like that. However, a road game against the Raiders is a great excuse for a vacation in Las Vegas— especially when that Monday is a bank holiday. You don’t even have to use any PTO for a travel day!

As a result, the split of Sunday’s crowd at Allegiant Stadium was no less than 50/50.

It is very possible that there were more Pittsburgh fans in the crowd than actual Vegas fans.

Terrible towels were everywhere, on all three levels of the stadium, all of the way around.

Not only did the Steelers contingency make their presence felt during the game, they showed up early to support their team during warmups. Tomlin gave them a tip of his cap.

It’s not like the 52-year-old head coach is new to the organization. He has been there for more than 15 years. He has played countless away games with a crowd that was flipped inside out.

For him to acknowledge the fans in Nevada in such a formal manner means that even Tomlin was blown away by the amount of gold. It was an all-time NFL takeover!
