This offseason is a pretty important one at the quarterback position for the Pittsburgh Steelers. With Ben Roethlisberger retiring, they now find themselves trying to figure out what exactly their future looks like at the position.

To address that issue, the Steelers signed Mitch Trubisky in free agency and drafted Kenny Pickett in the 1st round of the NFL Draft. They also still have Mason Rudolph, who was once believed to potentially be the long-term answer at quarterback.

The competition between these 3 has led to some intrigue, with some recent reports leading to a bunch of questions about where each QB will stand by the start of the season.

Those reports include the possibility of Rudolph earning the starting job and reports that Trubisky has struggled so far in camp.

Now fans have gotten their first look at where these quarterbacks actually stand. The Pittsburgh Steelers released their first depth chart today and it surprisingly listed Kenny Pickett as the team’s QB3.

Obviously, fans shouldn’t overreact to placement on the first depth chart, but it is still a bit strange to see Pickett as the QB3 on this depth chart. The Steelers spent a 1st rounder and made Pickett the 1st QB off the board in the draft to insert him into a QB competition that doesn’t have anybody with a strong history as a starter.

You would hope with that level of investment that Pickett would at least be your 2nd best quarterback already, especially when his competition for the backup role is Mason Rudolph.

Pickett has plenty of time to prove that he belongs higher up that list before the season starts, but if he doesn’t move up by then, it might be time for Steelers fans to worry about their team’s decision on draft day.
