The New York Giants have one of the most seemingly dire situations in the National Football League as they enter the 2025 season, as they don’t have a defined starting quarterback and are heading into the season with a head coach and general manager duo that much of the league and its fans see as dead men walking.
Former New York Giants cult hero wide receiver Amani Toomer, who won a Super Bowl with the team in 2007 when they beat the 18-0 New England Patriots in the Super Bowl, says that free agent players will be avoiding the franchise because of Schoen.
The Giants famously featured in last year’s season of HBO’s documentary series Hard Knocks, which featured the front office’s deliberations about whether or not they should re-sign Saquon Barkley, who ultimately signed with their rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles, and put together one of the greatest seasons a running back has ever had en route to winning the Super Bowl.

After making the playoffs in Brian Daboll’s first season as head coach, the G-Men has regressed in each of the last two years and haven’t even come close to qualifying for the postseason. Last year, the bottom completely fell out as the team finished last in the NFC East with a 3-14 record and cut starting quarterback Daniel Jones despite previously signing him to a four-year, $160 million deal in 2023.
With the difficulties the team faced in 2024, many Giants fans expected both Schoen and Daboll to be fired. Both were retained, however, leading Toomer to believe their presence is turning players off from signing with Big Blue.
