There’s nothing quite like the experience that comes with sipping on a cold beer while watching a baseball game, and that dynamic duo has a storied history that stretches back to the 19th century.

However, we might be about to enter a new era courtesy of the Portland Pickles, a wooden bat collegiate summer league team that’s made history by becoming the first American sports team to offer THC-based libations inside its venue.

As I alluded to above, baseball and beer have gone hand-in-hand for over 140 years. In 1882, an upstart league called the American Association set itself apart from the puritanical National League by luring fans in with the help of the sudsy brews teams served up in their stadiums, which marked the start of a hallowed relationship and set the stage for other sports to follow suit.

It’s been twelve years since Colorado became the first state to legalize the sale of marijuana, and as things currently stand, nearly half of the country has done the same.

That includes Oregon (which deserves credit where credit is due for decriminalizing weed all the way back in 1973), and now, the Portland Pickles—a wooden bat collegiate summer league team that’s called its largest city home since 2015—have set a compelling example by selling THC seltzer at their stadium.

According to a press release the Pickles released on Tuesday, the team has partnered with Cycling Frog Light Seltzer to sell Passionfruit and Lemon versions of the hemp-based fizzy drinks that each contain 2 mg of THC and 4 MG of CBD (if you’re not intimately familiar with dosage amounts, that’s at the very, very low end of the spectrum).

The Pickles assert this is the first time a team in the United States has sold a THC product at a sporting event, and I can’t find any evidence to debunk that claim.

You can obviously check a similar box if you decide to pop an edible before heading into a game, but it’s hard not to be intrigued by this development and it’ll be very interesting to see if other organizations decide to draw inspiration from the Pickles.
