Providence College will have a new basketball coach next season after Bryan Hodgson was tapped to replace Kim English. There’s no telling how the former USF skipper will fare on the recruiting front, but he garnered plenty of attention after using his wife to highlight his ability to land people he’s set his sights on.

Bryan Hodgson spent more than 15 years grinding as an assistant coach at a number of college basketball programs before finally getting the chance to helm a team of his own when he became the head coach at Arkansas State in 2023.

He posted a 45-28 record during his two seasons with the Red Wolves before heading to USF for what turned out to be a one-and-done campaign with the Bulls, who earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament (their first March Madness appearance in 14 years) as an 11-seed that went 25-8 before losing to Louisville in the first round.

Earlier this week, Providence College announced it had poached Hodgson after parting ways with Kim English after three disappointing seasons, and he made quite an impression during his introductory press conference.

Bryan Hodgson bragged about his wife to call attention to his ability to recruit

On Monday, Hodgson was officially introduced as the new head coach of the men’s basketball team at PC, and there wasn’t a single moment from the event that got more attention than his decision to point to his wife, Jordan, to highlight his recruiting talents.

If you’re curious about the spouse he called attention to, Jordan can be spotted in the videos PC posted chronicling Hodgson’s arrival on campus as well as the gathering where he issued the remark.

The couple met when Hodgson was coaching at Alabama, where Jordan graduated in 2021, and after he had wrapped up his time as a coach at Buffalo, the city where she originally hails from. They got engaged in 2023, and their son Jett was born the following year.

It’s worth noting Hodgson cracked the same joke when he arrived at USF, but it’s safe to say it landed a bit better in Providence.

Sometimes the second time is the charm.
