Heading into this year’s NCAA Tournament the Purdue Boilermakers were seeking redemption.
For the last 2 years, they have been eliminated from the tournament by much lower seeded teams after entering the tournament with big expectations.
This year things got worse.
Purdue spent most of this year near the top of the AP Poll and entered the tournament as a 1-seed thanks in large part to the efforts of 7’4″ center Zach Edey.
For their first game in the tournament, they were pitted against Fairleigh Dickinson, a 16-seed who qualified for the tournament because their conference’s champion wasn’t eligible to accept the automatic bid and who featured the nation’s shortest roster.
They even had to beat Texas Southern on Wednesday night to earn this matchup with Purdue.
None of that mattered tonight. As a 23.5-point underdog, FDU toppled Purdue in a game that they controlled most of the way.

Following the historic loss, the Boilermakers are getting absolutely roasted for once again being eliminated by a much smaller program.

Another thinks Arizona fans are excited about Purdue’s performance because it will take some heat off of them for losing to 15-seed Princeton yesterday.

One thinks that Purdue may have just been a fraudulent team to being with.

I guess there’s always next year for Purdue, but at this point they might find themselves hoping for a lower seed in the next tournament just to avoid the embarrassment of an early upset.
