The Purdue basketball program landed on the wrong side of history this March by becoming just the second No. 1 seed to lose in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Boilermakers fell to 16th-seeded Fairleigh Dickinson in their final game of the 2023 season.

The unfortunate defeat had the college basketball world talking, with some going as far as to say that head coach Matt Painter should be fired. That won’t happen as Painter’s led the program to 14 NCAA Tournament appearances in 17 seasons.

Still, the fans are frustrated with another early exit from the Big Dance. This year was particularly disappointing as it was Purdue’s first time landing a top seed since 1996.

Many are venting their frustrations throughout social media and message boards, but a trio of Boilermaker fans opted to take a different route.

Instead of bashing the program online, they decided to voice their feelings about the team in a song. The recently released “Purdue Anthem” is now going viral.

The song, which is set to the sweet sounds of Smash Mouth’s “All Star,” was posted to the TikTok account @stilltipppn. Surprisingly, it’s not half bad.

Sucks to lose to the 16th seed, but at least we were part of history.

Followers were quick to respond to the music video, posting reactions in the comments section.

One of the top commenters asks, “Why is this not viral?” Another said, “This isn’t getting the attention it deserves.”

Someone else wrote, “This anthem may just singlehandedly save the Purdue basketball program.”

It had to be tough seeing the Boilermakers fall early after their promising season and Big Ten Tournament championship. At least these fans aren’t taking the loss too hard.
