The Texas Longhorns took down the Kentucky Wildcats in SEC football action on Saturday, 31-14. The win set up a massive season-ending showdown with Texas A&M next weekend.

The winner of that matchup will play for the conference championship against Georgia. The Longhorns received good news on the status of QB Quinn Ewers, who suffered an injury in their most recent 17-point victory.

Ewers briefly exited the game after being rolled up on by a Wildcats defender. While he would later return, Texas wouldn’t ask him to do much more in the win. Luckily, the Longhorns rushed for over 250 yards. They didn’t need Ewers’ arm.

The passer was clearly hobbled after the fact, leading to postgame injury questions with that Texas A&M rivalry looming. Here’s what he had to say:

“It’s just a little tender. I’m going to do as much treatment as I can. It was [on a play] around the 50-yard line. I stepped up and kind of took off running a little bit. Got hip drop tackled and I think he kind of rolled up on me a little bit.”

Quinn Ewers cited a hip drop tackle in his breakdown. That tackle, of course, has been one of contention over the last few years as it has a tendency to lead to lower body injuries.

On Sunday, the quarterback got an MRI to further evaluate the severity of the setback. The Longhorns wanted to ensure he didn’t have any structural damage to that ankle ahead of his next start.

Those tests reportedly turned up good news. The injury was described as a “mild sprain.” He should be ready to roll against the Aggies!

While Ewers’ performance has been criticized at times throughout the college football season, he’s played an integral role in the team’s success. At 10-1 on the year, Texas has a chance to not only win the SEC in its debut campaign, but to also make the College Football Playoff for a second straight year. They’ll be glad to have QB1 in the lineup for what’s shaking up to be a huge rivalry contest.
