Quinn Ewers (likely) finished his college football career at Texas with a loss to Ohio State on Friday. His former roommate, Jack Sawyer, sealed the victory for the Buckeyes with a lengthy scoop-and-score.

The Longhorns’ quarterback is subject to criticism for how he acted after fumbling the game away.

Ewers left high school early to enroll at Ohio State as the top-ranked prospect in the college football recruiting Class of 2021. He was paired with Sawyer, a fellow top-10 recruit, upon arrival to Columbus and they shared a living space for approximately five months.

Ewers ultimately hit the transfer portal in December and moved back home to play in Austin. Sawyer stayed in Ohio. They reunited in Dallas at the Cotton Bowl on Friday.

Texas squandered its opportunity to win with a terrible sequence of events at the goal line during the fourth quarter. The Longhorns, down by seven, had 1st-and-goal at the one-yard-line and failed to get in the end zone. In fact, it went the other way. Ohio State actually took a 28-14 to close out the drive.

Ewers dropped back to throw on 4th-and-goal at the 8-yard-line. Sawyer broke into the backfield with the utmost of ease and knocked the ball loose. It took a perfect bounce right into his arms, which allowed him to go 83 yards the other way. The scoop-and-score touchdown sealed the win for the Buckeyes.

Not long thereafter, Ewers got his first opportunity to address his former roommate after the catastrophic series of events. All he said to Jack Sawyer was “screw you” with a laugh and a pat on the chest.

Here’s the moment:

Here is what Ewers had to say during his postgame press conference:

Although the interaction between friends, former roommates and fierce competitors was all in good fun, Quinn Ewers is subject to criticism for how he handled the devastating loss. Some college football fans don’t like the optics of how he acted in the wake of disaster. Texas fans in particular don’t appreciate that he was laughing with the guy who spoiled the Longhorns’ shot at a national title.
