It is extremely rare that NFL rules analyst Gene Steratore disagrees with the referees. However, a pass interference call that bailed out the Las Vegas Raiders got him to publicly express his disapproval.
Remember this moment because it may not ever happen again!
Steratore served as an official in the National Football League for 16 years, beginning in 2003. He retired in 2018 and joined CBS as an analyst shortly after hanging up the stripes. His loyalty to the call on the field is so well-documented that it has become a meme over the last few years. Steratore rarely criticizes the officiating— matter the sport, no matter the controversy. Whatever was ruled on the field is right.
(The following image isn’t even the meme I was looking for, which proves my point. It’s that common!)

Believe it or not, Gene Steratore actually disagreed with a call on Sunday!
Las Vegas trailed Baltimore by seven with seven minutes left. Gardner Minshew led a 54-yard drive into Ravens territory to set up 2nd-and-goal at the nine-yard-line. He was sacked on second down.
The Raiders had 3rd-and-goal from the 17 and went to the air.
Minshew threw to Davante Adams in the end zone. Although his receiver could not come down with the ball, the officials threw a flag for defensive pass interference. It moved the ball to the one-yard-line with a fresh set of downs. The offense punched it in on the very next play and tied the game with the PAT.
Pass interference called here. It really looks like they are both hand fighting. Raiders get a fresh set of downs #LVvsBAL pic.twitter.com/unlJ7Rcfid

Steratore did not think that the pass interference was warranted because both wide receiver and defensive back were jostling for position in the end zone. He actually disagreed!
I believe both the WR and DB were hand-fighting while the ball was in the air and broke contact around the same time. I didn’t see either one gaining an advantage, so not in favor of the Defensive Pass Interference call.#LVvsBAL pic.twitter.com/UHSLKlNqcS

Las Vegas went on to win the game by three points after getting bailed out by the officials on 3rd-and-goal. Very fortunate!
