Count ESPN College GameDay host Rece Davis among those who are skeptical of Johnny Manziel‘s excuse for no-showing his planned appearance on the show a week ago.

Manziel, the former Heisman Trophy winner, was scheduled to be the guest picker in College Station when his alma mater, Texas A&M, hosted Miami in the opening round of the College Football Playoff.

Instead, Manziel was unable to make it after spending the night prior partying in Miami, both before and after the boxing match between Jake Paul and Anthony Joshua. Manziel apologized for the incident, but claimed that he came down with norovirus and was not able to make the show.

Davis, meanwhile, isn’t so sure about that explanation.

Rece Davis Isn’t Buying Johnny Manziel’s Excuse For Missing College GameDay

Despite Manziel’s apology and supposed explanation, Davis still wasn’t happy with the former Aggies star when he spoke out on a recent episode of the College GameDay podcast with ESPN colleagues Pete Thamel and Dan Wetzel.

“When you go to a fight like that, you’ve got to be very careful about where you eat breakfast the next morning,” Davis said. “Because it can leave you ill and give you difficulty in reaching the locales where you are scheduled to be. But I digress.”

Thamel then joked about Manziel’s Instagram post apologizing for missing the show and calling out people for “false narratives” surrounding his absence. At which point, Davis continued.

“I just wondered, is that what the kids are calling it these days? A bad breakfast? Anyway, wouldn’t cast aspersions anywhere. For those who follow closely, you’ll be able to read between the lines there. You have to follow a little closely,” he said.

With Manziel out, former Aggies basketball star and current Oklahoma City Thunder guard Alex Caruso stepped up on short notice.

And something tells us this is the last time Manziel will be invited to do the show.
