The second-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes traveled to Eugene, Oregon to take on the third-ranked Ducks in the biggest college football game of the weekend on Saturday.
But within minutes, Big Ten referees made their mark on the game when they missed and then failed to review an obvious interception for Oregon that instead led to an Ohio State touchdown.
Less than four minutes into the game, Buckeyes QB Will Howard hit tight end Will Kacmarek for a huge 32-yard game to the Ducks’ 21-yard line.
But upon replay, it was obvious that Kacmarek bobbled the ball and instead Oregon linebacker Jeffrey Bassa came away with an interception.
Was this a catch or nah for Ohio State? 🤔 pic.twitter.com/Go0mUXALPI

However, officially ruled it a catch for Kacmarek and before they could stop the game to review, Ohio State snapped the ball and handed it to running back Quinshon Judkins for 3 yards.
Fans couldn’t believe that the officials missed the call.
One of the most egregious no calls I’ve ever seen https://t.co/4kUvXLGENJ

No review on this play is ridiculous https://t.co/BVQC2c95Bc

Nah. And if OSU keeps getting breaks like that this game won’t last long. https://t.co/RUE83D9AJ0

It’s just the latest in a long run of controversial calls across the country in college football this year. Last week, ACC officials appeared to bail out the Miami Hurricanes twice against Cal.
And earlier on Saturday afternoon, SEC referees called a pivotal holding against South Carolina against Alabama, made even worse when broadcaster ABC refused to show a replay of the play.
