Retired NHL Player Gets Hilariously Petty Revenge After Son’s Schoolmate Calls Him ‘Trash’

Retired NHL defenseman Marc Methot never came close to becoming a household name, but he still had a pretty respectable career that spanned 13 seasons. As a result, I can’t help but respect the petty move he pulled after one of his son’s schoolmates decided to call him “trash.”

Much like the person who graduates last in their class in medical school still earns the right to call themself a doctor, the worst professional hockey player still managed to achieve something the vast majority of people can only dream of.

I should stress I’m not suggesting Marc Methot comes close to earning that label, as the Ottawa native was a solid defenseman who appeared in 624 games between the Blue Jackets, Senators, and Stars while recording 22 goals and 123 points before knee injuries forced him to hang up his skates in 2021 (two years after he played his last NHL game).

Methot briefly pivoted to podcasting in the wake of his retirement, but it would appear he’s now focusing most of his energy on his family while raising two kids: his four-year-old daughter Ivy and his three-year-old son Jack.

On Thursday, Methot turned to the internet for advice after Jack came home from school and informed him another kid told him his dad is “trash at hockey” during recess, which led to the former d-man pondering ways he could get some revenge after realizing the kid’s dad was probably the person responsible to instilling that belief.

The tweet received a flood of responses from people who suggested some possible routes he could take, including one person who floated the idea of giving the kid a signed hockey card in the hopes the gift would lead to him asking his father why he doesn’t have one—a plan Methot said he plans to execute.

Well played.
