Richard Sherman Claims Patrick Mahomes And Josh Allen Are To Blame For Lamar Jackson’s Contract Standoff

We are in day 5,735,384 of the Lamar Jackson contact standoff with the Baltimore Ravens and it doesn’t appear an end is in sight.

Okay, maybe our counting is off by a bit, but it’s gotta be close to that, right?

The long the situation runs on, the more people want to have their say on how things have played out.

Just this week the standoff took its strangest turn yet, with Jackson’s business partner reportedly getting involved, causing the NFL to send a memo to teams warning them to steer clear.

Richard Sherman Blames Mahomes, Allen For Lamar Jackson Contract Fiasco

Now five-time Pro Bowl cornerback Richard Sherman is weighing in, and he’s got a pretty controversial take on the situation. Sherman says that superstar quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen are to blame for Jackson’s inability to get a deal done.

“What pissed me off is when Kirk Cousins got his guaranteed deal, I thought quarterbacks from then on were gonna be like, ‘If it ain’t guaranteed, I ain’t taking it. Then [Patrick] Mahomes took that bs deal — just 10 years and wanted it to look like half a [billion]. … But when he didn’t set it, then Josh Allen didn’t set it, now Lamar [Jackson]’s trying to set it after Deshaun [Watson]’s already set it. And [team owners] are like, ‘Nah. We ain’t letting that go.'” – Richard Sherman on Lamar Jackson’s contract situation

Sherman presents a new theory as to why Jackson is not yet signed. Others proposed that Jackson would have a deal done if he’d hired an agent. In fact, a group of NFL agents said that that was the only reason that Jackson and Baltimore haven’t reached an agreement.

Both sides are clearly frustrated regardless of the cause. It’s unlikely that Jackson plays on the franchise tag in 2023. And other NFL teams appear hesitant to sign him to an offer sheet. Sooner or later, something has to give.
