Marijuana may have gotten him in trouble on the field but Ricky Williams is ready to profit from it now that he’s retired.
The former Miami Dolphins running back is a partner and spokesman for Power Plant Fitness, a pot friendly gym that is scheduled to open this fall in San Francisco.
San Francisco is about to take fitness to a higher level with the world’s first cannabis-friendly gym. Power Plant Fitness, co-founded by 420 Games boss Jim McAlpine and retired NFL player Ricky Williams, aims to battle the increasingly antiquated stoner stereotype by merging athletics and weed for a more balanced workout that fuels both body and mind.
The gym, which is set to open in San Francisco this November, will be run by Williams and will focus on “integrative full body and mind training,”. However, unlike any other gym in the world, members will be able to consume cannabis (inside the gym!) while working out.
Williams, who infamously retired in 2004 after failing multiple drug tests, has been extremely vocal over the years about the NFL’s policies on marijuana use.
I was a really good football player, a really good person, my teammates loved me, my coaches loved me, but my career and life were ruined because of a drug test,”. “It doesn’t make sense. They have to take a more humane approach to this.
“For the most part, the NFL is a closed system; they don’t have to keep up with the times. Because they are a business that depends on viewership, only when the viewers speak, the NFL will follow.”
The NFL’s stance on marijuana has always been ridiculous and as a Dolphins fan I’m glad Ricky WIlliams is able to do something he enjoys without being treated like a leper just because he smokes pot.
