Pagan, whose father and trainer is Puerto Rican, is ready to put on a show for his family and friends on the island.
“I have a lot of family here that’s gonna come out to support, especially my family coming from Puerto Rico on my dad’s side, you know. So it’s great to be back where it all began for, for my, for that side of the family/ So I’m excited.”
Pagan saw the love the Puerto Rican people gave Edgar Berlanga before and after his fight against Canelo Alvarez just a few weeks ago.
“It just shows me that they really stand behind their people, they have a lot of pride, it’s a beautiful thing, and Berlanga, you know, he gained a lot of respect in that fight. I myself doubted him going into the fight, but he showed that he has a lot of heart, he has that dog in him.”
As for Pagan, he believes he’s ready to take the next step of his career in the coming year and hopefully fight for a world title soon.
“Well, I’m still progressing, and with how things are going right now, headlining this next show and just fighting tough opposition. It’s prepared me for some of the bigger names in the sport. So, I feel like in the next year or two, I will definitely get a title shot and, you we’ll just go from there.”
Pagan wants to prove to fans this weekend that he’s worthy of being a headliner.
“I’m gonna give my best on fight night. I’m gonna show you guys why I deserve to be the headliner, a part of this is like I gotta prove why I’m the one that’s headlining the show and I’m looking forward to showing that.”
You can watch Pagan face off against Rhodes live on DAZN on October 18th.
